The American Red Cross is hosting a Military Family Salute and Reconnection Brunch on Saturday, June 22, from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at American Legion – James Harvey Spire Post 787, located at 5575 Legionnaire Drive, Cicero.
The event is free to all military families, friends, active duty service members, veterans, reservists and agency partners. In addition to a complimentary brunch, guests will have an opportunity to meet other military families and to learn about resources and programs from the Red Cross and other community service providers.
The keynote speaker is Gary B. Beikirch, a former United States Army Special Forces soldier who received the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions in the Vietnam War. A combat medic, Sgt. Beikirch was awarded the medal for exposing himself to intense fire to rescue and treat the wounded, and for continuing to provide medical care despite his own serious wounds, during a battle at Dak Seang Camp, Vietnam.
