On Sunday, June 9, 2019, at 7:21 p.m., members of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office Navigation Patrol responded to a reported jet-ski accident that occurred on Oneida Lake.

Deputies investigated the accident and discovered that Jose A. Medina, 33, of Syracuse, and Juan L. Perez, 60, of Trumansburg, were operating jet-skis in an unsafe manner by weaving in and out of each other. Medina drove his jet-ski into the side of Perez’s jet-ski causing injury to Perez’s left ankle.

Vineall ambulance responded to the scene, but Perez refused treatment. Both operators were issued tickets for reckless operation and operating a personal watercraft without a safety certificate.

Medina fled the scene and was additionally issued a ticket for leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.

Both operators are scheduled to appear in Lenox Town Court July 2, 2019, to answer the charges.

Bridgeport Fire Department and the state police assisted at the scene.
