UPDATED: State Police investigate member involved shooting in town of Hastings
On Aug. 27 at approximately 7:40 a.m., Trooper Ryan Cooley was dispatched by Oswego County 911 to the area of 3532 State Route 49 to respond to the report of a possible stolen vehicle in progress and to meet with the complainant who would be standing by in the area.
At approximately 8:05 a.m., Cooley located the complainant, Melissa Ehegartner, standing on the side of the road. As Cooley interviewed Ehegartner, the suspect drove by the state police patrol car with Ehegartner’ s vehicle and pulled into the driveway at 3532 Route 49.
Cooley then pulled into the driveway right behind the vehicle and approached the driver, later identified as 25-year-old Robert S. Teeter of 3532 Route 49. Following an interview with Teeter, Cooley attempted to place him in custody when he physically pulled away and swung his arm in an attempt to hit Cooley in the head.
Teeter was able to get away and ran into the house.
A short time later, several Troopers and Oswego County
Deputies arrived on scene to assist in locating Teeter. Teeter was subsequently
located hiding in a second-story bedroom. He then pointed a Bear River BB
pistol (model B1588) at Trooper Nathan Horner. Tpr. Horner discharged his
division issued firearm striking Teeter several times. Teeter was transported
to Upstate University Hospital and is currently listed in serious condition.
Criminal charges against Teeter are pending.
During the investigation, it was determined several individuals were inside the residence during the incident and were interviewed.
State police arrested Joshua R. Kirkland, 34, of 420 Westmoreland Ave., Syracuse, with second-degree criminal impersonation and second-degree obstructing governmental administration, both class A misdemeanors.
Kirkland is charged with providing a false name and date of birth during an investigation at 3532 State Route 49 in the town of Hastings. Kirkland was also wanted on two active warrants from state police in North Syracuse for seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and Syracuse Police Department for fourth-degree criminal mischief, second-degree menacing and second-degree harassment.
Kirkland was arraigned in Hastings Town Court and remanded to Oswego County Jail.
State police arrested Kimberly J. Lopes, 32, of 3532 State Route 49, for second-degree criminal impersonation and second-degree obstructing governmental administration, both class A misdemeanors.
Lopes was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Hastings Town Court at 4 p.m. Sept. 2, 2019.
Lopes is charged with getting between the trooper and Teeter while in the kitchen of the residence, which allowed Teeter to retreat to an upstairs bedroom. She is also accused of identifying herself using a false name and date of birth.
On Aug. 27, 2019, at approximately 8:30 a.m. state police in
Hastings were dispatched by Oswego County 911 to the area of 3532 State Route
49 in Hastings for a stolen vehicle complaint.
A trooper located the stolen vehicle occupied by a 25-year-old male in the
driveway of the residence. The trooper was attempting to place the driver into
custody when the driver physically resisted and fled into the residence.
Troopers located the suspect inside the residence at which point the suspect pointed what appeared to be a handgun at troopers. A trooper discharged his duty weapon, striking the suspect multiple times.
The suspect was transported to SUNY Upstate Medical University and is listed in serious but stable condition.
Names of the suspect and trooper are being withheld.
State police were assisted at the scene by the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office and Oswego County District Attorney’s Office.
The investigation continues.
Utica man arrested on sex abuse charges
On Aug. 26, 2019, state police arrested Robert McMurray, 57, of 428 Donegal Drive, Utica, for first-degree sexual abuse, a class D felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.
McMurray is accused of having sexual contact with a child under the age of 6.
He was arraigned in German Flatts Town Court and remanded to the Herkimer County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.
