Indivisible Calling on Brindisi and Congress to Reduce ICE & CBP Funding
Indivisible Mohawk Valley and other local groups are calling on Congress and specifically Rep. Anthony Brindisi (NY 22) to Defund Hate against immigrants seeking refuge at the U.S. southern border. We will rally from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2019, at the Oneida Square roundabout in Utica.
We want Congress to reduce funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection in this month’s 2020 budget appropriations. Congress has approved billions of dollars for immigration enforcement with almost no safeguards, giving President Trump a blank check to attack immigrants.
In June, the House, including Brindisi, voted to give Trump billions more for detention and enforcement, including millions of additional funding for ICE, with no oversight. Trump has demonstrated time and time again that he will use every dollar he can to detain, separate and deport families.
Other sponsoring groups include Pax Christi (Mohawk Valley), Mohawk Valley Friends (Quakers) Meeting, InterFaith Coalition of Greater Utica and Mohawk Valley Latino Association. Our speakers will include Rev. Tamara Razzano of Little Falls, who was in El Paso in August witnessing the situation at the detention centers, and Sonia Martinez of MVLA.
