In conjunction with the HomeOwnership Center, NBT Bank, One Realty and Attorney Kevin Leahy the AmeriCorps Housing Opportunity Center at the Utica Municipal Housing Authority will offer a free workshop for first-time homebuyers from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2019, at the Utica Public Library, 303 Genesee St., Utica, in the second-floor gallery.
It is open to the public; refreshments will be served.
The seminar, “Thinking about Buying a Home?” will
review the pros and cons of purchasing a home, pre-purchase planning,
understanding credit, choosing the right mortgage, finding a real estate agent,
benefits of a home inspection, homeownership counseling services and legal
concerns.
“The purpose of the workshop is to help first-time homebuyers to determine if
they are ready to move from renting to buying a home,” said John Furman, director
of grants, programs, compliance, and monitoring. “We will let participants
know what they need to do now to realize their dream of buying a home. We
are excited about sponsoring this workshop and hope that our tenants and
Section 8 voucher-holders will attend.”
Speakers will include Elizabeth Preuss, Housing Advisor, HomeOwnership Center; Lou DeMichele, One Realty; Harry Cooper, NBT Bank; and Attorney Kevin Leahy.
The Housing Authority AmeriCorps Housing Opportunity Center will be available to provide information about local programs.
