State Senator Rachel May (53rd District) will host a senior information fair for Madison County residents from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2019, at Canastota High School, 101 Roberts St. The fair, which is free and open to all, will take place in the school’s Dimao Gymnasium, located near the school’s tennis courts.

More than 50 vendors plan to participate in the fair, representing government, nonprofit and business sectors that provide services for, or address the interests and needs of, persons age 50 and older. Flu shots also will be available; those interested in getting the flu vaccine should bring their Medicare or insurance card.

“Older New Yorkers contribute so much to our communities and in so many ways,” said May, who chairs the Senate Committee on Aging. “We are fortunate that this region has a wealth of resources, services and programs designed to keep them engaged and active, as well as to meet their evolving needs of daily living. The more we can help spread the word about these resources and opportunities, the better.”

Organized in partnership with the Madison County Office for the Aging, the event will provide a one-stop opportunity for persons 50 and older, family members and friends to explore a wide range of programs and services, talk with representatives and pick up informational materials.

Information will be available on such topics as legal services, caregiver support programs, fraud prevention, healthcare programs and facilities, managed long-term care programs, home care services and veterans’ support services.

With no afternoon classes at the school and teachers and staff using an alternate lot, fair attendees will have space to park in the lot closest to the gym entrance.
