Blossvale woman arrested for stealing more than $3,000 from employer

On Jan. 23, 2020, state police in Sylvan Beach arrested 22-year-old Shania A. Leonard of Blossvale for third-degree grand larceny (a class D felony) and first-degree falsifying business records (a class E felony).

Between October and November of 2019, Leonard is accused of stealing money from her employer, Circle K Convenience Store, 1015 Main St., Sylvan Beach, while she was employed as a cashier. The theft totaled $3,290.

Leonard was arraigned in Oneida County Centralized Arraignment Court and was released. She is scheduled to appear in Sylvan Beach Village Court at 6 p.m. Feb. 6, 2020.

Oneida County man arrested on felony drug charges

State police announce the arrest of Charles Strain, 59, from Forestport, on charges of second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (a class A felony), third-degree unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine (a class D felony) and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon (a class A misdemeanor).

On Jan. 24, 2020, at approximately 5:38 a.m., members from the Troop D Violent Gang and Narcotics Enforcement Team and the state police Special Operations Response Team executed a search warrant at 10613 Dustin Road, Forestport, regarding a narcotics investigation.

Investigators seized several items from the residence, including approximately 1 gram of methamphetamine, 30 ounces of liquid methamphetamine, digital scale, numerous items of lab equipment that are used to manufacture methamphetamine, a loaded Remington .22 caliber rifle and .22 caliber ammunition.

Strain, a convicted felon, was charged and arraigned through the Oneida County Centralized Arraignment Program.

Troopers investigate roll-over crash in Skaneateles

State police investigated a one-vehicle roll-over crash that occurred on Vinegar Hill Road in the town of Skaneateles.

Investigation revealed that at approximately 11:45 a.m., a 2005 Mazda operated by Brittney Lynn Lobner, 21, of Jordan, was traveling northbound on Vinegar Hill Road when she lost control, crossed into the oncoming lane, exited the roadway, struck a tree and overturned.

Lobner was transported by ambulance to SUNY Upstate Medical University with non-life threatening injuries.

Three juveniles arrested after a traffic pursuit and crash in a stolen vehicle

On Jan. 27, 2020, at approximately 12:30 a.m., a state police patrol unit from North Syracuse was traveling westbound on the state Thruway when they observed a 2013 Hyundai speeding (80 mph in a 65 mph) and driving over the fog line several times.  Troopers pulled the vehicle over, but as the troopers walked up to the driver, the driver sped off. The vehicle continued westbound and attempted to exit the Thruway at Exit 35, when the driver lost control, struck a guide rail and overturned, coming to rest off the roadway.

All three occupants then fled on foot from the vehicle.

Troopers immediately took a female into custody. Officers from the town of DeWitt Police Department located a second female who fled and placed her into custody. The Onondaga County Sheriff’s AIR1, who responded to the area, was able to locate the third individual hiding in a wooded area near the crash scene.

All three suspects are juveniles. The driver, a 16-year-old male from Syracuse was charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a class D felony; and third-degree fleeing from a police officer, a class A misdemeanor.

Two passengers in the vehicle, a 17-year-old female and a 15-year-old female, both from Utica, were charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a class D felony.

During the investigation, troopers were advised the vehicle was stolen from the city of Utica.

All three juveniles were issued family court appearance tickets and released to a legal guardian.

State police were assisted at the scene by the DeWitt Police Department, Syracuse Police Department K9 and the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, including AIR 1.
