Assemblyman John Salka (R,C,Ref-Brookfield), alongside peers in the Republican Conference, Senator James L. Seward, local law enforcement and concerned citizens will hold a press conference to discuss the repeal of bail reform at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020, inside the Otsego County Correctional Facility.

Invited to participate are Senator James Seward (R,C,I-Oneonta), Assemblyman Chris Tague (R,C,I, Ref-Schoharie), Assemblyman Brian Miller (R,I,C,Ref-New Hartford), Assemblyman Robert Smullen (R,C,Ref-Meco), Otsego County Sheriff Richard Devlin, Madison County Sheriff Todd Hood, Schoharie County Sheriff Ronald Stevens, Herkimer County Sheriff Scott Scherer, Otsego County DA John Muehl, Madison County DA William Gabor and County Legislator Peter Oberacker.

Salka attended a rally calling for full bail reform repeal Tuesday, Feb. 4, in Albany, standing with more than 250 members of law enforcement, state senators and assemblymen, calling for a full repeal of bail reform.

Salka echoes the message of the rally to prevent events like the hit-and-run on Christmas Eve, which resulted in the death of a mother of three and the release of a man who allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend in front of their 4-year-old daughter, by sponsoring legislation A.8855 to protect all New Yorkers.

“It’s simply gone on far too long,” Salka said. “My heart breaks for the families that have been impacted by the felons and criminals that have been set free. It speaks for itself, all these members of law enforcement, legislators and most importantly, the people. We’re all calling for it; it’s time to listen to the will of the people. Repeal bail reform.”

Assemblyman John Salka represents the 121st Assembly District, encompasses all of Madison County and portions of Oneida and Otsego counties.
