Are you interested in learning to knit? The Canastota Public Library’s two knitting groups are available to help.
If you want to learn to knit, join us at either our 6 p.m. Thursday Evening Knitters meeting or our 10 a.m. Friday Morning Knitters meeting each week at the library. Both groups meet in the Lawson Community Room. All supplies – including needles and yarn – will be supplied, as well as a knitter or two to help you learn what you need to know to knit a scarf; all you need to bring with you is a willingness to learn.
The Canastota Knitters have donated hundreds of items to the Canastota Opportunity Shop, the Community Action Partnership and the Madison County Office for the Aging. In addition, the groups launched a fundraiser recently for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. The knitters are selling handcrafted hats, scarves and mittens to benefit this wonderful literacy initiative in Canastota. The items are on display near the circulation desk at the library.
The Knitting Groups have also provided knitted items to the “I Am Not Lost” initiative. During the cold winter months, items will be displayed outside on our library’s front staircase. They will all be labeled “If you need me, take me!” It is our hope that those in need will find the warmth of the community in one of these knitted gifts.
The Canastota Public Library is located at 102 W. Center St., Canastota.
