Sunday, July 12, 2020, would have been the 43rd annual Boilermaker. We share in the disappointment that, for the first time in those 43 years, it cannot be held to circumstances outside of our control.
The experience of being a part of the Boilermaker is a huge component of what we strive to provide; however, one of our most important components is the safety of everyone involved.
The city of Utica, its partners and the Boilermaker organization plan year round for traffic control issues, organization of safety plans, provisions of medical services and, most importantly, to provide an environment where the only thing spectators and attendees need to worry about is enjoying the race and the after party and the runners’ only concerns are about accomplishing their goals.
For those who still want to be a part of the event, The Boilermaker has made this year’s event virtual where individuals can run a course from Sept. 1 through 13 and report their times.
This course can be on a treadmill or any outside arena they choose.
We understand the difficulties and disappointments in cancelling this year’s event. Collectively, we are as saddened as anyone; however, we look forward to bringing the Boilermaker back to Utica in 2021 and continuing the tradition of being the greatest 15K in the county.
