(Hamilton, NY – Jan. 2, 2013) Mariah Jones became Colgate’s second Anaconda Player of the Week recipient this season with Wednesday’s announcement from the Patriot League office.
The sophomore guard from Silver Spring, Md., earned her first Player of the Week nod after scoring a collegiate-high 25 points and tying for team honors with six rebounds in Saturday’s win over New Hampshire. Jones was 8-of-13 from the field and matched her career high with five 3-pointers in 10 attempts, becoming Colgate’s first player to reach 20 points in a game this season.
She also converted all four of her free throws and did not commit a turnover in 30 minutes of action.
Jones for the season is third on the team in scoring average at 7.5. She leads the squad and ranks fourth in the Patriot League in 3-point field goal percentage at 38.8, while her 1.6 treys per game ranks ninth in the conference.
Jones was a Patriot League Rookie of the Week selection in December 2011. Earlier this season, Missy Repoli earned Player of the Week honors for the Raiders.
Joining Jones on this week’s awards list is Army’s Kelsey Minato, who was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week.
