(Albany, NY – Jan. 3, 2013) Colgate rookie Kyle Baun added to his awards this season as he was named Hogan Hockey/ECAC Hockey Player of the Month for December, which was chosen by the league’s coaches.
It was his second monthly honor after being named rookie of month earlier in the season. He was also selected as player and rookie of the week after the UMass series sweep in early December.
Baun enjoyed his best weekend of the year against the Minutemen with six points on three goals and three assists. Two of the three goals that he scored came on the power play. He posted a season-high four points on Dec. 7 in a 6-4 win over UMass with two goals and two assists and then followed that up with a goal and an assist the next night in a 5-2 win to earn the sweep. It was Colgate’s first two road wins of the season, excluding the neutral site game against Quinnipiac on Cape Cod.
He ranks second in the league among rookies in points with 14 on seven goals and seven assists. Baun trails teammate Tylor Spink by two points for the conference lead. He leads the Raiders and ECAC Hockey rookies in goals with seven.
Baun and the Raiders will be back on the ice this weekend for the first time since the UMass series. Colgate takes on Sacred Heart in a two-game series on Friday and Saturday with both games starting with a 7 p.m. faceoff at Starr Rink.
