(Oneida, Canastota, NY – Feb. 2013) There are about two weeks left to enter the 2013 Catholic Daughters Of the Americas Education Contest. The themes for this year are “Jesus is reflected in me” and “My life is a reflection of good.” The Education Contest is open to any student in fourth through 12th grades. The divisions and categories are as follows:
Division 1 Grades 4-5: Essay, Poetry, Art, Computer Art; Division 2 Grades 6-7-8: Essay, Poetry, Art, Computer Art, Music, Photography; Division 3 Grades 9-10-11-12: Essay, Poetry, Art, Computer Art, Music, Photography
Guidelines:
Essays: Neatly typed or written not to exceed 500 words
Poetry: Any style not to exceed eight lines
Art: Size 12 by 18 inches, no lettering. How the theme is carried will be part of the judging, as well as artistic ability.
Acceptable media: crayon, markers, ink, paints (any), charcoal, pencil (black or colored) and pastels (chalk).
Computer Art: Size 8-and-a-half by 11 inches, no lettering. Fill majority of page. No clip art or images imported from web sites.
Music: Lyrics and notes written on music score. A cassette tape recording or CD must accompany the entry.
Photography: Size eight-by-10-inch picture depicting the theme. Color or black and white. No collages, downloaded computer image(s) or a picture of a picture.
Though a contestant may enter a category once, they may submit entries in multiple categories.
All entries must be of contestant’s own imagination and creation; all entries must be received or postmarked by Feb. 15.
