(Chittenango, NY – Feb. 2013) Chittenango’s boys basketball team capped a 39-38 victory over Marcellus Thursday in a last second thriller. The Bears trailed at the end of each three quarters but stayed close enough to pull a perfect game ending play engineered by head coach John Clancy on a time-out.
Junior Jordan Sass hits for 2 giving the Bears a 37-36 lead with under a half minute of play remaining.
After Marcellus regained the lead on a lay-up with 18 seconds remaining in the game, veteran Coach John Clancy calls a Chittenango time-out to set up a play.
With 6 seconds of game remaining, Senior Devin Phelps (#1) pulls the Marcellus defense to the left side of court, looks left at Jordan Sass (out of view) buts fires a blind pass hard right hitting Sean Cliff who had snuck in behind the defense. Sass executed Clancy’s Call and dropped it in for the game winning bucket bucket. Sean Cliff and Jordan Sass each had 11 points for the Bears.
