(Morrisville, NY – Feb. 12, 2013) Visiting SUNY Cobleskill women’s basketball posted 48 points in the second to top host Morrisville State College by a 79-49 final in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action Tuesday night in Morrisville.
The Mustangs drop to 1-23 overall, 1-15 in NEAC play, in the home finale, while Cobleskill improves to an 8-14 mark, 7-9 in conference action.
Heidi Anderson (Canajoharie, N.Y.) paced Cobleskill with a game high 20 points, hitting three from long range, while Kady Porterfield (Macdoel, Calif.) added 13, snagging a team best 14 rebounds. Alexis Hauser (Albany, N.Y.) narrowly missed a triple-double, collecting 14 points, assisting 10, and grabbing nine boards.
Akiella Parks (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) led the Morrisville State efforts with 12 points, grabbing 10 off the glass, while swiping three steals. Queen Holquin (Bronx, N.Y.) added eight points off the bench.
In a half that saw the lead change eight times in the first 14 minutes of play, Cobleskill took the lead for good with 6:14 to go in the period on a lay-up by Tracee Schiebel (Vernon, N.Y.) before Hauser added another to give the visitors a four point advantage.
Morrisville State was able to cut the lead to two with just over two minutes remaining in the opening half, but Anderson added a jumper and Porterfield two straight buckets to give Cobleskill the 31-23 lead at intermission.
Cobleskill went on an 11-3 run over the opening minutes of the second period, widening the difference to 16, before capitalizing on their dominance on the offensive glass to extend the lead to as many as 33 en route to the conference victory.
The Fighting Tigers dominated the boards, 63-31, including pulling 25 off the offensive glass, compared to just eight for the Mustangs.
Morrisville State returns to the court Saturday, traveling to SUNY IT for the season finale. Cobleskill travels to Canton on Thursday before closing out the regular season at Cazenovia on Saturday.
