(Hamilton, NY – Feb. 11, 2013) A career afternoon that included the game-winning goal in overtime landed Colgate’s Jimmy Ryan the Patriot League’s Offensive Player of the Week award.
Ryan and teammate Matt Clarkson accounted for nine goals Sunday in the Raiders’ 14-13 victory at Bryant. Ryan scored four times and added an assist on one of Clarkson’s five tallies. Ryan’s goals and points were both career game highs for the junior midfielder and captain.
Ryan’s fourth and final goal came 1:51 into overtime and lifted the Raiders past the defending champ and preseason favorites from the Northeast Conference. Colgate scored first in each quarter of the game plus overtime, with Ryan accounting for the last three of those.
Colgate (1-0) plays the second of five straight road games to start the season this Saturday at Vermont in the Catamounts’ season opener. Face-off is 1 p.m.
Other award winners from the Patriot League were Navy’s Pat Kiernan (defense), Lehigh’s Matt Poillon (goalkeeper) and Bucknell’s Thomas FLibotte (rookie).
