(Hamilton, NY – Feb. 25, 2013) The Patriot League took due notice of Peter Baum breaking its career goals record and named the Colgate senior Offensive Player of the Week.

Baum scored a game-high four goals and six points in Saturday’s 13-10 victory at Dartmouth. He broke the Patriot League record for goals and now stands at 139, one better than the old mark of 138 set by Bucknell’s Justin Zackey from 1991-94.

Baum also climbed into Colgate’s career top 10 in assists with 51. He owns 190 all-time points and is just 10 shy of the school record of 200 points set by Derek Laub from 1990-93.

The attackman and team captain is tied for second in the conference in both points (4.67) and goals (3.00) per game.

Fellow captain and senior defenseman James Queeney earned honorable mention notice from the Patriot League after contributing a pair of groundballs and two caused turnovers in Saturday’s win. He was part of a Colgate defense that held Dartmouth scoreless for 14½ minutes over the second and third quarters as the Raiders rallied from a pair of two-goal deficits.

Queeney also limited the Big Green’s Mike Olentine to zero points, one shot and three turnovers.

Colgate, now 3-0 and off to its best start since 1993, faces its first big showdown of the season with a Saturday visit to Cornell. Start time in Ithaca is 3 p.m.

BAUM SENIOR CLASS CANDIDATE: Colgate’s Peter Baum is one of 20 student-athletes selected as a candidate for the 2013 Senior CLASS Award® in collegiate men’s lacrosse. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.

The Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

The candidate class will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one finalist who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.

The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2013 NCAA Lacrosse Championships in Philadelphia May 25-27. For more information on all the candidates, visit seniorCLASSaward.com.

RAIDERS UP & DOWN: Colgate moved up in one poll and down in another after Saturday’s 13-10 win at Dartmouth.

The Nike/Inside Lacrosse Media Poll boosted the Raiders to ninth, while the USILA/Coaches Poll dropped Colgate to 11th. Head coach Mike Murphy’s squad was 10th in both polls last week.

The Raiders are 3-0 and off to their best start in 20 years. The last time a Colgate squad opened with at least three wins to start the season was 1993. That Raiders team went 5-0 en route to a 9-3 campaign, and the 1964 Raiders also opened 5-0 on their way to an 11-1 season.

This week’s Colgate opponent is Cornell, which fifth and seventh by the major polls. Start time Saturday in Ithaca is 3 p.m.
