(Chittenango, NY- April 2013) An incredible speaker, Holocaust survivor, historian, and teacher, Helen was only a young girl when her town was raided by Nazis. She was relocated to a ghetto in Poland and later imprisoned at Ravensbrück and then Buchenwald.
Hear her moving story at Chittenango High School Auditorium, April 21 from 3 to 5 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The term ‘Polish ghetto’ is incorrect. The Nazi Germans established the ‘ghettos’ on occupied Polish soil. The ghettos were not Polish as implied by the comment. Please correct the error.
This a press release submitted in the language of the organizers. Your comment here expresses the distinction. If you would like, I can try to have one of them contact you.
This rendition of history is muddled at best. The only country mentioned is Poland, not even “occupied” Poland. No mention of Germans or Germany, only these nebulous Nazis. In the interest of historical accuracy, it should be clarified that Poland was invaded and occupied by Germany and that it was they who created the ghettos and camps.
Why argue about semantics? The point is that Mrs. Sperling is a HERO to share her remarkable story with her community. She has an incredible lesson to teach and we need to be more inclined to hear her message and LEARN.
