National Trail Days is June 1
Submitted by Rusty Patane
(Town of Lenox, NY – May 2013) National Trails Day will be celebrated at the Great Swamp Conservancy of Canastota, June 1 from 10 a.m. to noon (weather permitting).
American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day will bring together outdoor enthusiasts across the country for this annual celebration of America’s magnificent trail system and its countless supporters and volunteers. The Great Swamp will be doing trail maintenance on the Woodcock and Wooded trails along with planting White Pines. All volunteers that participate will receive a White Pine seedling and a National Trails Day sticker.
National Trail Day encourages all Americans to connect with local nature centers, outdoor organizations, businesses, community groups, and parks and recreation departments as well as federal land management agencies to experience, appreciate, and share the natural places we cherish.
Since 1993, National Trails Day has inspired millions of individuals and community groups to take part in activities that promote healthy living and mental well-being, protect green space, educate youth and adults on the importance of trails, and instill excitement for outdoors.
Girl Scout Troop 20-108 of Canastota has already signed up for this trail stewardship project.
Call the GSC if you would like to commit 2 hours of your time outdoors to benefit wildlife and mankind.
