Proceeds to support child’s educational needs

(Erieville, NY – May 2013) A benefit has been scheduled for June 29 in Erieville at the Blue Canoe Grill, 3568 North Lake Road for a local family, Christine, Tom and Grace Lafave.

Christine, 45, was a professor at Colgate University. Tom is a physical education and lacrosse coach with the Central Square School District and their daughter Grace is 6.

Christine was diagnosed recently with stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer and is undergoing chemo and radiation however the prognosis is 20 months.  This is where her neighbors come in.

Plans for a benefit began immediately, which is actually for their daughter Grace to help with her future educational needs after her mom passes. With Christine and Tom being educators, benefit organizers thought the best way to honor Christine and let her know that she has touched many people in her life.  All proceeds from the benefit will be going into a fund set up for Grace at M and T Bank.  People can also make direct donations into the account for Grace Lafave at any M and T Bank.

On June 29 there will be a walk-a-thon starting at 9 a.m.; preregistration starting at 7 a.m. The cost is $25 and includes a T-Shirt. The walk is around Tuscarora Lake starting at the Blue Canoe. It is about 5 miles and will pass in front of the Lafaves house.

The main event is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. with music, food, and raffles. Tickets for the main benefit are $11 for adults and $8 for kids 6 and under. A Facebook page has been set up with information about it called the “Fight Like a Girl Benefit.”

Any questions and of course any donations, contact Ricki Meade at 662-3175.
