(Madison County, NY- May 2013) Open Farm Day is your opportunity to learn more about the local food grown right in your back yard in Madison County and this year’s event is fast approaching.
Cornell Cooperative Extension is thrilled to announce the 6th annual Open Farm Day on Saturday July 27 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Thirty-seven farms will be opening their gates to the public on this day.
Open Farm Day is an opportunity for you, your family and your friends to travel Madison County, tour the farms, sample some homegrown products, see farm animals and experience the bounty of Madison County Agriculture. All you need is an Open Farm Day passport and a cooler to bring home lots of local food.
This year, the Open Farm Day Prize for visiting three or more farms is a Madison County Picnic Pack, an insulated drawstring backpack. Just get your Passport stamped at three different farms, fill out the survey on the back of the Stamp Card and turn it in at your final stop in exchange for the Open Farm Day Prize.
Open Farm Day is as a great way to experience the diversity of locally produced products and Madison County farmers. Price Chopper will print 20,000 full-page, colored Open Farm Day Passports. These will be available at 10 Price Chopper locations in CNY, mailed directly to thousands of homes in Madison County as well as distributed to key locations in Onondaga, Oneida and Madison Counties.
