Raiders Defender Named to Capital One Second Team After Third-Team Selection Last Year
(Hamilton, NY – June 6, 2013) Colgate’s James Queeney for the second straight year played and studied his way onto the Capital One Academic All-America Men’s At-Large Team. This time, the senior defenseman moved up one position to the second team.
The Colgate valedictorian for 2013 sported a 4.17 grade-point average and graduated last month summa cum laude as a double major in mathematics and mathematical economics. The Reading, Mass., native was an Academic All-Patriot League performer for the third straight year and earned Colgate’s John T. (Jack) Mitchell Award for the second year as the student-athlete with the highest grade-point average.
Queeney also was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, received the school’s Osborne Mathematics Prize and once again was a Charles A. Dana Scholar. He was a member of the Raider Academic Honor Roll and Colgate Dean’s List every semester, and was an Academic All-America third team member in 2012.
On the field, Queeney played and started in all 15 games this season for the Raiders. The tri-captain tallied 32 ground balls and caused seven turnovers for the Patriot League Tournament semifinalists. Queeney for his career played in 56 games with 49 starts, and finished with 88 ground balls and 30 caused turnovers.
The Capital One Academic All-America men’s at-large category comprises student-athletes from fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling, in addition to lacrosse.
