(DeRuyter, NY – July 11, 2013) The DeRuyter Town Board Approves a Town program to aid low to moderate income victims of the July 1 flood event at the July 11 Town Board Meeting.
Through a unanimous vote, the DeRuyter Town Board approved a flood relief program for flood victims within the township who qualify as low to moderate income based on household size in accordance with U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s definition.
“FEMA Individual Aid is extremely uncertain at this point,” Town Supervisor Dan Degear explained to board members and members of the public. “We have residents who cannot wait and need help now; this aid will provide them with some relief.”
The DeRuyter Town Board is utilizing moneys paid back to the Town from a HUD grant, which provided loans to residents for housing improvements in the year 2000 totaling just under $52,000.
“Because these funds originated from HUD, we can only offer it to low and moderate income households,” said Degear.
Program details and applications may be picked up at the DeRuyter Town Offices on the first floor of the Genevieve D. Staley Civic Center, 735 Utica Street, DeRuyter during business hours at the Town’s website www.deruyternygov.us, or at the DeRuyter Free Library. Applications should be turned in as soon as possible so the Town can begin to distribute the aid. The funds will be allocated based on the number of qualifying applicants and their individual needs.
The DeRuyter Town Board will meet again on Tuesday, July 16.
