To the Editor:

letterstotheeditor(Oneida, NY – July 12, 2013) To those who have been stricken by the flood of June 28 in Oneida City and Vernon, we at Oneida Public Library extend our deepest sympathy and our promise to help you out as long as it takes to recover from this disaster.

One simple way we can help you is to forgive any fines on Oneida Library books, DVDs and CDs that you have borrowed and that got lost or damaged in the flood. If that happened to you, please stop by the library with your I.D., and we will look up your record and erase the specific fines.

The OPL can also be a resource to you by providing free access to the Internet on its public computers and through WiFi, if you managed to save a laptop or device. If you need help communicating online with agencies and businesses, especially filling out forms online, we will have experienced volunteers to help you at the library Monday through Thursday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon, starting Monday, July 15.

For flood victims, the OPL will print online documents, duplicate hard copies and fax them, all for free, during the recovery period.

When it comes to insurance claims, we have invited to the OPL Craig Bailey, vice-president of personal lines at Bailey, Haskell and LaLonde Insurance Agency, to talk about home insurance and filing claims on Tuesday, July 16, at 7 p.m. Bailey will answer questions from flood victims about their specific issues.

When you need more information on governmental and private agencies, health precautions or recovery tips, remember the OPL. We will help you find the information you need. For example, see the OPL web site for links to the web sites of agencies and groups that can possibly help you (www.midyorklib.org/oneida2).

To find out more, come by the Oneida Library, 220 Broad St., or call us at 363-3050.
