To the Editor:
(Brookfield, NY – July, 2013) Due to a partnership gone awry, the Madison County Fair got off to a rocky start, but rocked on thanks to the empathy of several bands who entertained with little or no compensation for their efforts. The Madison County Fair Board of Directors would like to express their sincere appreciation to Survivor, Wicked, Red Hush, Northern Lights, Fritz Polka Band, Jason Wicks, Fulton Chain, BoCNY, BOMB and Pulsate, who lived up to the old adage “The Show Must Go On.”
The show did go on throughout the fairgrounds. Cattle, horses, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks and rabbits all came to compete for blue ribbons. The Madison County Youth Bureau entertained with exhibits and hands-on projects in the main event tent.
The stage showcased Madison County’s talent and the Ms. & Mister Madison County Pageant. Poems were recited at the poetry reading, and stories were shared at the Brookfield Speedway Reunion.
Trucks & tractors pulled for trophies, and the Demo Derby played to a capacity crowd that sold out the grandstand before the first engine roared to life. What could have turned into to a disastrous event was averted by an awesome showing of support: even Mother Nature played her part by bestowing perfect Fair weather.
The directors of the Madison County Fair would like to thank all of the volunteers, superintendents, sponsors, exhibitors, vendors and patrons, along with the Madison County Board of Supervisors, Madison County Courier, Madison County Tourism, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Madison County Youth Bureau and all the county offices contributing to the success of the 174th edition of the Fair.
In response to the encouragement and support received, the Madison County directors have pledged to persevere. In 2014, the Madison County Fair will mark its 175th anniversary. The directors would like to make the 175th annual edition of the Fair a tribute to everyone who has made this remarkable milestone a reality.
Anyone interested in assisting in this endeavor is encouraged to contact a Fair Board member. In the meantime, the fairgrounds are being geared up for the 42nd annual edition of Wheel Days that will roll Sept. 27 through 29.
Let’s keep the positive momentum going!
