From the Senate
(Oneida, NY – Aug. 2013) Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) holds Jacob Thomas, who received a pulse oximetry test when he was 2 days old. The test helped identify a life-threatening congenital heart defect, and Jacob was quickly treated.
Valesky co-sponsored legislation that requires facilities to perform pulse oximetry screenings on every newborn in New York state. Jacob’s parents, Kelsey and RJ, advocated strongly in favor of the bills.
