(Canastota, NY – Sept. 11, 2013) In our world today, technology changes as fast as a blink of the eye, or so it seems. Our public libraries are definitely one place where you can come for help in learning new technologies.
Beginning in September, the Canastota Public Library will offer several technology workshops on specific topics to get you up to speed on new technologies. Workshops on Skyping, Digital Photography, eBook Downloading and Website Design will all be offered at the Canastota Public Library.
Skyping has become a way to keep in touch with friends and family around the world. The service allows users to communicate with others using a microphone and webcam over the internet. A Skype Workshop is planned for Monday, Sept. 30 at 10am. This hour and a half class will help you to install the Skype program on your own computer and learn the basics of the program.
On Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 2 – 4pm, patrons can attend our Digital Photography Workshop. Participants will want to bring their own laptops and digital cameras to learn how to transfer photographs to their computers from the camera.
The continued popularity of eBooks prompts us to offer an eBook Workshop on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 6pm at the library. Participants should bring their own electronic device and we will work with you to enable you to download library books onto your eBook. Patrons are telling us they love this new service.
Many small businesses and individuals now have their own website or blog. If you want to start either of these sites and get something up and running quickly, we can help. Our Website Design Workshop teaches you to use WordPress to get your site online! This program will be offered on Tuesday, Nov. 19 beginning at 6pm.
All Workshops will be held in the Lawson Community Room on the lower level of the library. Interested participants should contact the library to register for these programs as there is limited space. If possible, participants should bring their own laptop computer and other applicable technology. Some library laptops will be available to use as well. Please call the library at 697-7030 to register or stop in and register at our Circulation Desk for these programs.
As always, we do offer beginner level training to anyone who needs assistance on learning to use their computer such as creating an email address, navigating the internet and using MicroSoft Word and other similar programs. These trainings are done on an individual needs basis. You can contact the library for more information.
