(Canastota, NY – Sept. 2013) On Monday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. the Canastota Public Library will celebrate Archives Month by hosting World War II Veteran Al Paviglianti and Madison County Historian Matthew Urtz.
Urtz will present a brief overview of Madison County’s role during World War II and Paviglianti will speak about his time in the Marines fighting in the Pacific Theatre. A display showcasing stories from the county during the war will be on display.
Paviglianti is substituting for Dante DiPietra who sadly is unable to attend.
Paviglianti served in the 3rd Marine Division headquarters and spent the majority of his service time in the Pacific theatre including Guadalcanal, Guam, Iwo Jima and Bougainville. He is currently the Adjutant for the Madison County American Legion.
This event is free and everyone is welcome. It will take place on the
second floor of the Library, accessible by elevator.
