Valesky ProclamationNew York State Senator David J. Valesky presents the non-profit Oneida Community Mansion House Executive Director Patricia A. Hoffman with a proclamation also signed by New York State Assemblyman William Magee commemorating 25 years of service to the State of New York.

(Oneida, NY – Sept. 25, 2013)   Twenty-five years ago the non-profit Oneida Community Mansion House was formed to acquire the Mansion House and surrounding property from Oneida, Ltd.  That same year, the New York State University Board of Regents granted the organization a Provisional Charter as a non-profit museum and in 2000 granted it an Absolute Charter.

On hand at a gala celebrating on Sept. 21 were Oneida Community descendants, former and current trustees of the non-profit, friends, neighbors and New York State Senator David J. Valesky.  Valesky presented Executive Director Patricia A. Hoffman with a proclamation also signed by New York State Assemblyman William Magee commemorating Oneida Community Mansion House’s 25th anniversary, its service to the State of New York as an educational institution, and for its preservation of an historic site of National importance.

Once home to the longest lasting of the 19th century utopian communities (1848-1880), the property was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1968.  The site currently serves 10,000 annual visitors including school children, college students, community organizations, scholars, historians, and the general public through programs, tours, and exhibits.

Today, the building houses a museum with permanent and changing exhibitions, residential apartments, overnight lodging, a gift shop, and banquet and meeting space.

Guided tours are available Wed. through Saturday 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. for a nominal fee.  The Oneida Community Mansion House is located at 170 Kenwood Ave., Oneida, NY.
