(Morrisville, NY – Sept. 2013) The following is a scheduled calendar of events held at the Morrisville Public Library during October.

Closures:  We will be closed on Monday October 14 to observe Columbus Day.

11th Annual Pumpkin Coloring Contest: From Monday, October 1 until Saturday, October 19 stop in to the library and pick up your pumpkin coloring contest entry!  Open to toddler to 6th graders!  Winners will be announced at our Halloween party at the end of the month.

Kiddies Korner: Bring the little ones out on for our preschool story hour on Tuesday October 1 at 9:30am!  Help us have fun with autumn colors as we hear stories and more!

Video Game Night:  Bring your handheld gaming system (DS, 3DS, or any other) OR come and play on our WII gaming system.  Play against other gaming enthusiasts on Friday October 4 at 6:30pm!  Please make sure any games you bring have your name on them.  Feel free to bring a nutritious snack to share!

Tai Chi Chuan Class: Come learn Tai Chi Chuan with instructor Bill Snyder.  Open to all teens and adults.  Best part, it’s FREE!  Join us on Monday October 7, 21, and 28 at 6:30pm.

Kiddies Korner: Our preschool story hour is back and we will be reading about YUMMY, YUMMY cookies in honor of October being Cookie Month on Tuesday October 8 at 9:30am!

Historical Talk #2- Graveyards of Madison County:  Join Sue Greenhagen, Village and Town Historian, for her second of 3 different historical talks on Friday October 11 at 6:30pm. This one will take a look at many of Madison County’s cemeteries.  Included are interesting people, interesting headstones, and the “do’s & don’ts” of cemetery care.  Join us in November for her last talk, “The Monumental Art of Gettysburg.”

Archives of World War II on display: From Tuesday, October 15 through Saturday October 19 we will have a World War II display in the library program room during library hours.  This is sponsored by the Madison County Historical Society, our Veterans Office and the County Clerk’s Office.  It will be mostly photos, some letters and other things from folks during World War II.

Kiddies Korner: Our preschool story hour will be hearing stories about Owls and Bats so bring your preschool child in for this exciting bunch of stories on Tuesday October 15 at 9:30am!

World War II Vet, Al Paviglianti Talk:  On Tuesday October 15 at 6:30pm, we are excited to host, Al Paviglianti as he shares about his experiences in World War II.  Al served in the 3rd Marine Division headquarters.  He spent the majority of his service time in the Pacific theatre including Guadalcanal, Guam, Iwo Jima and Bougainville.  Al is currently the Adjutant for the Madison County American Legion.

Book Talk:  Fall is the perfect time to settle in with a good book.  Join us for our book talk on Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s book, Love in the Time of the Cholera on Wednesday October 16 at 6:30pm.  Copies are available the middle of September for checking out.

Family Movie Night: Join us for Family Movie night on Friday October 18 at 6:00pm.  Bring the family in for popcorn and a movie!  We will be showing the movie, The Croods.  This will prove solidly entertaining for families seeking a fast-paced, funny cartoon adventure.

Kiddies Korner: Bring your preschool child in for fire prevention on Tuesday October 22 at 9:30am!  Hear some stories and then meet some members of the Morrisville Fire Department!

Lunch Book Talk: Bring your lunch and join in the discussion of the book, The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce on Friday October 25 at 1:00pm.  Books can be picked the middle of September during library hours.  This talk will take place in the museum room of the library.

Halloween Party: Wear your costumes and join us for a spooky celebration on Friday October 25 at 6:30pm!  We will not only announce the winner of the pumpkin coloring contest, but play fun and games and make cool crafts too!

Kiddies Korner:  We will celebrate Halloween so bring your preschool child in for some stories and more and Tuesday October 29 at 9:30am.
