(Oneida, NY – Oct. 2013) On display at Oneida Public Library the week of Oct. 7 through 12 will be materials showcasing the stories of Madison County men who served in World War II gathered by county historian Matthew Urtz.
The display, part of a celebration of Madison County during World War II during New York State’s Archives Month at the county’s public libraries, is the result of a collaboration of the county archives, the Madison County Historical Society and the county’s town historians.
On Saturday, Oct. 12, at 3 p.m., the OPL is hosting a reception for Leonard “Scoop” Ressegger, a veteran of the Italian Campaign in World War II. Ressegger will speak of his life in the U.S. Army before, during and after the arduous Italian Campaign fought by the Allies to oust the Germans from Italy and remove Mussolini from power.
At the reception, Urtz will present an overview of the county’s role in World War II and the contributions of its men and women in uniform.
Refreshments will be served.
