(New York City – Oct. 11, 2013) The Colgate field hockey team had a two-goal lead at the half, but Columbia scored twice in the second half and 48 seconds into overtime to defeat the Raiders, 4-3, on Friday night.

The Raiders (2-11) played another one-goal game and got goals from three different goal scorers. Eliana Brown tallied her 10th goal of the season, while Halle Biggar added her eighth. Olivia Nabhan was the first player to get on the board with her third of the year. Amanda DiDomizio made five saves in the loss.

The Lions (5-6) also had multiple goal scorers in the game. Anna Scipioni netted the gamewinner and it was her first goal of the season. Christina Freibott tallied the tying goal with8:25 left in the game. Columbia played two goals in net with each making one save. Kimberly Pianucci earned the win without give up a goal in the second half and overtime.

Nabhan wasted no time getting the Raiders on the board 4:43 into the game with a score off of a rebound from the right side. Kyle Marsh responded just over six minutes later on a penalty corner to tie the game at 1-1.

Colgate then grabbed a 3-1 lead with goals from Brown and Bigger. Brown’s came 3:40 after the Lions tied the game. She was able to deflect a shot on a penalty corner, which came from Kelsey Jensen. Biggar increased the lead to 3-1 with her eighth score of the year. She took a pass and dribbled down the middle of the circle and fired a hard shot past Marlee Silverstein for the two-goal lead.

Columbia chipped away at the lead in the first part of the second half with Leah Matthews scoring on her own rebound. Her initial shot was stopped by DiDomizio, but she stuck with the play and beat the Colgate keeper to make it 3-2. The Lions tied the match with Freibott redirecting a shot from Lauren Skudalski on a penalty corner to force overtime.

Overtime featured one shot and it was a penalty stroke for Scipioni and she beat DiDomizio and the Raiders with her first goal of the season to give Columbia a 4-3 win.

The Raiders have the rest of the weekend off and will be back in action next Saturday against Lehigh at Tyler’s Field for Senior Day.
