(Hamilton, NY – Oct. 2013) On Thursday, Oct. 24 from 7 to 10 p.m. Madison County’s first women’s roller derby league, Ladies’ Death and Derby Society will host a cupcake night at the Good Nature Brewing Tap Room at 8 Broad St. in Hamilton.

Join the league for an evening fundraiser filled with homemade treats as they raise funds for their growing league.

Entry is free and cupcakes and other baked goodies will be on sale along with league t-shirts.

Founded in February 2012, Ladies’ Death and Derby Society has almost 20 members from across Madison County including Hamilton, Poolville, Cazenovia, Canastota, Madison, Oneida and Sherrill.

In August of this year the league successfully hosted its first competition (“bout”), and they are looking forward to jump starting another season.

Although roller derby’s popularity is often associated with a more staged play from the 1960s and 70s, the modern game is very different. Today the sport is rigorous, athletic, and internationally regulated, and teams are known for promoting grassroots community efforts.

LADIES DEATH & DERBY LogoThe league’s team, The TitleTown KnockOuts, practices three times a week at the Oneida Nation Recreation Center, and they are always welcoming new members. Women 18 and up of any skating ability are always invited to join. The team is also looking for men or women interested to serve as referees and non-skating officials.
