(Morrisville, NY – Nov. 26, 2013) Visiting Keuka College men’s basketball put together the perfect storm and did everything they had to do Tuesday night to hand host Morrisville State College a 81-60 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) defeat in Morrisville.
The win lifts Keuka to 3-2 overall, 1-0 in NEAC play, while Morrisville State drops to 2-3, 0-1 in conference action.
Keuka outshot the Mustangs by nearly 15 percent on the night, hitting 29-of-58 shots from the floor (50%), as Morrisville State converted just 21-of-59 attempts (35.6%). The Storm were near perfect from long range, sinking 5-of-7, while the Mustangs, a team that averages 7.3 tre’s per game, struggled hitting just 3-of-17 attempts.
The Storm out did Morrisville State on the boards 40-34, and forced 13 Mustang miscues, while getting huge play inside from Tyler Hixson, who posted a high 25 points to lead all scorers on the night. Three additional teammates posted double digits, including Trevor Healy who chipped in 13, while Jared Wagner and Casey Williams added 12 and 11, respectively.
Hixson controlled the glass for Keuka, snagging seven boards, four on the offensive glass, while Wagner dished out five assists.
Jordan Prior (Cortland, N.Y.) led the Morrisville State efforts with 13 points, adding two assists, while teammate Brandon Hanks (Syracuse, N.Y.) added 12, assisting three others.
Sherard King (Bronx, N.Y.) grabbed a high nine rebounds, five on the offensive glass, while chipping in nine points.
Keuka led 45-31 at the half.
Morrisville State returns to the court Wednesday, December 4, hosting Cobleskill at 5 p.m. in NEAC action.
Keuka nets 65-42 win over Morrisville State women
(Morrisville, NY – Nov. 26, 2013) Visiting Keuka College women’s basketball shot 42.4 percent from the floor on the night to top host Morrisville State College 65-42 in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action in Morrisville.
The loss drops the Mustangs to 1-4 overall, 0-1 in conference action, while Keuka picks up their first win to improve to 1-3 overall, 1-0 in the NEAC.
Jessica Bandrowski led all scorers with 19 points on the night, hitting 5-of-9 from beyond the arc, while adding six assists and four steals to her tallies. Two additional teammates also posted double figures, including Danielle Gravel who added 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting from long range, while Casey Chamberlain added 12. Katie Stuart led the Storm on the glass, collecting nine rebounds.
Queen Holquin (Bronx, N.Y.) came off the bench to lead Morrisville State with 17 points, hitting 5-of-9 three’s, while teammate Jordan Anderson (West Edmeston, N.Y.) added 10 points, three assists and five steals to the Mustang efforts on the night. Jennel Paul (Brooklyn, N.Y.) grabbed a team high seven rebounds.
Keuka jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the opening minutes until Anderson hit a jumper and Holquin one from long range to put the Mustangs on the board. The Storm increased their lead to 15 with 6:50 to go, but Maura Conlon (Marcy, N.Y.) hit back-to-back three’s as Morrisville State outscored Keuka 21-16 in the final six minutes of the half.
The Storm led 38-28 at the break, behind 45.5 percent shooting from the floor, including 7-of-14 from long range, while the Mustangs rebounded to complete the half 11-of-31 from the floor, nailing six from beyond the arc.
Keuka opened the second half outscoring the Mustangs 13-4 in the opening 10 minutes of the period, increasing their lead to 18, eventually putting the game out of reach as Morrisville State struggled offensively, hitting just three of 31 shot attempts.
Morrisville State returns to the floor Wednesday, Dec. 4, hosting Cobleskill at 7 p.m. in NEAC action.
