Owen Woodworth Kindergarten Burton St 6yrs - CopyOwen Woodworth enjoys the refreshments at last year’s holiday celebration party at the New Woodstock Free Library.  This year’s event is from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday Dec. 7.  It includes recognition of volunteers, the opening of the children’s art exhibit, holiday refreshments and crafts for children.  The event is free and open to the public.

(New Woodstock, NY – Dec. 2013) The New Woodstock Free Library annual volunteer recognition celebration will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 7 at the library, 2106 Main St. (Route 13).  The opening of the annual Cazenovia Schools student art exhibit will coincide with the volunteer event.

The event will include refreshments, children’s crafts, a brief ceremony to recount the year’s achievements, and a first look at the children’s art exhibit, which will run through Jan. 31, 2014.  The public is invited to attend, meet the student artists and thank the volunteers for their efforts.

Librarian Norm Parry says volunteers have sustained and supported the library for 75 years.  The library celebrates its “diamond” anniversary this coming year.

“We have always had, an extraordinary group of people who give their time and skills to make the library what it is,” Parry said.  “We could never thank them enough, but we designate one day a year to recognize the essential role they play in the library’s success and longevity.  We invite everyone who uses the library to stop by Dec. 7 and express their thanks.”

The student art show has been an annual attraction at the library for over 15 years.  Cazenovia art teacher Mary Damon arranges the show.   For many of the students this exhibit is the first opportunity they’ve had to show their works in a venue outside the school.

The New Woodstock Free Library is open Monday through Friday 1 to 5 p.m., Monday and Wednesday evenings 7 to 9 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 until 1.  The library is also open whenever the blue library symbol flag is flying out front.  Children’s hour is every Tuesday at 11 a.m.  The library phone number is 662-3134.  For more information, visit the library webpage www.midyork.org/newwoodstock.
