Three goal final period lifts Mustangs over Franklin Pierce 4-2

(Winchendon, Mass. – Dec. 13, 2013) Visiting Morrisville State College hockey rallied for three goals in the third to post a 4-2 come-from-behind victory over host Franklin Pierce University Friday night in Winchendon.
The win lifts the Mustangs to 3-7-1 overall, as they return to the ice for a second match against the Ravens tomorrow night before the semester break.
Marc-Antoine Chaput (Mascouche, Quebec) and Daniel Morello (Vaughan, Ontario) each posted one goal and an assist in the win, while Matthew Beer (Corunna, Ontario) and Steve Dol (Ingersoll, Ontario) tallied the other scores for the Mustangs.
Ryan Marcuz (Richmond Hill, Ontario) had two assists, including to the game winner.
Chris Azzano (Oshawa, Ontario) registered 17 saves in the win.
Franklin Pierce posted the lone score in the opening period on a power play at 15:28 and maintained that lead until the 15:21 mark in the second when Chaput posted the man advantage score for the Mustangs to even the score at one.
The Ravens added another power play tally minutes later to reclaim the lead after two.
In the third, Morrisville State rallied for three scores within a five minute span, en route to the non-conference win.
Chaput found Morello on the left point who rifled the tying score just 2:47into the period on the power play for the Mustangs, before Beer gave Morrisville State their first lead of the night with a second man up tally just over a minute later.
Maintaining the offensive pressure, Dol notched the lone even score of the night at 7:48, a one-timer off a Marcuz feed, giving Morrisville State the 4-2 advantage and comfortable lead.
Morrisville State scored on 3-of-5 power plays on the night, while holding a 29-19 advantage in shots.
The puck drops at 7 p.m. for Morrisville State tomorrow against the Ravens.
Southern Vermont edges Morrisville State women 57-54

(Bennington, Vt. – Dec. 13, 2013) Visiting Morrisville State College women’s basketball dropped a 57-54 non-conference decision to host Southern Vermont College Friday night, wrapping up the semester with a 2-6 overall record as they head into the holiday break.
The Mustangs had no answer for the post play of the Mountaineers as Sarah McDonald posted a high 25 points and 16 rebounds to lead Southern Vermont to the win. Teammate Amber Flagg added 21 points and four assists.
A majority of the scoring came from the reserves for the Mustangs, as they outscored Southern Vermont 31-3 in bench points. Queen Holquin (Bronx, N.Y.) led that effort with 12 points, adding six rebounds as teammate Caitlyn Adams (Sherburne, N.Y.) added eight points and snagged eight boards.
Jordan Anderson (West Edmeston, N.Y.) had five assists.
Morrisville State got off to a slow start in the first and trailed 18-24 at the break, behind a 21.9 percent struggling shooting performance from the floor.
The Mustangs fell behind by as many as eight in the second half before putting together a final effort in the closing minutes, but ran out of time as Southern Vermont held on for the win.
Morrisville State returns to the court Jan. 7 at Bard College.
