(Canastota, NY – Jan. 2014) Canastota Canal Town Museum and the Canastota Public Library, sponsors of the popular historical talks, have scheduled the eighth annual series of Canalside Talks.  The four monthly programs will be held at the Library on Monday evenings at 7 p.m.

Leading off the series on Jan. 13 will be a talk entitled “The Erie Canal Brewery and Beer Making.”  Brewmaster Jason Tedford will give a short history of beer and explain how he brews Muleskinner Pale Ale at the brewery located in Canastota.

Sam Lanzafarme’s farm provides the two-row barley and cascade hops used in the beer.

Other Canalside Talks and presenters for 2014 are:

Feb. 10: “How Cars Conquered Our Cities” by Dr. Brian Ladd, SUNY, Albany. The illustrated lecture is co-sponsored by the New York Council for the Humanities.

March 10: “The Contribution of Madison County Women to History” by Matt Urtz, Madison County Historian.

April 7:  The People who Worked the Railroad” by railroad author John Taibi.
