(Madison County, NY – Jan. 2014) On Saturday Jan. 11 from 1 to 4 p.m. the Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum will host a genealogy workshop. Whether you are a beginner or advanced presenters Pamela Vittorio and Jane Graham are sure to have some new ideas and great pointers on locating family from the past.  Learn about hundreds of free and subscription resources on the web or in print.  Bring in your own family tree to show and tell your story. Free Wi-Fi will be available if you want to bring your tablet to follow along.  Admission is $10 and includes a “starter tree kit.”  Light refreshments will be served.

On Monday Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. the Canastota Canal Town Museum and the Canastota Public Library will host a presentation on local brewing entitled “The Erie Canal Brewery and Beer Making.”  Erie Canal brew master Jason Tedford will give a short history of beer and explain how he brews Muleskinner Pale Ale at the brewery located in Canastota.  The talk is free and open to the public.  Light refreshments will be served immediately following the talk.  For more information please call 315-697-7030.

On Monday Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. the Canastota Canal Town Museum and the Canastota Public Library will host a presentation by Dr. Brian Ladd of SUNY Albany entitled “How Cars Conquered Our Cities.”  This lecture, sponsored by the New York State Council for the Humanities, will show how the goal of traffic flow led to suburbs, neighborhoods and entire cities being rebuilt around motor travel.  The talk is free and open to the public.  Light refreshments will be served immediately following the talk.  For more information please call 315-697-7030.

On Thursday Feb. 20 from 9 a.m. to noon the Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum will host a Kids’ Workshop.  Kids will get to make their own checkerboard.  Wood and paint will be provided.  Kids are encouraged to bring their own buttons for their board pieces.  Tickets for the event are $20.  To RSVP or for more information please call 315-687-3801 or email coordinator@clcbm.org.

On Sunday Feb. 23 from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. the Canastota Hi-Way Bowl will host the Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum’s Bowling Bash.  More information to come.

On Wednesday March 5 from 10 a.m. to noon New York State Archivist Dr. Suzanne Etherington will present “Preservation of Historical Records, Part II” at the Cazenovia Public Library. Workshop will touch on topics such as how archival records are stored, and how they are handled and key elements in prolonging their lives. Participants may bring examples of records needing preservation for an open discussion period.

On Monday April 7 at 7 p.m. the Canastota Canal Town Museum and the Canastota Public Library will host a presentation on local railroad historian John Taibi entitled “The People who worked the Railroad.”  Taibi is the author of over 20 publications dealing with central New York railroads.  The talk is free and open to the public.  Light refreshments will be served immediately following the talk.
