(Hamilton, NY – Jan. 10, 2014) Head coach Heather Young has announced that the Colgate women’s lacrosse program has hired Caitlin Fitzpatrick as an assistant coach.
Fitzpatrick joins the coaching staff after spending last season at her alma mater Adelphi University as an assistant coach. The Panthers made the Division II NCAA Tournament with Fitzpatrick on staff and defeated Le Moyne to advance in the tournament.
“We are thrilled to welcome Caitlin to Colgate and our lacrosse family,” Young said. “Being a goalie you have the unique perspective to see the game from all angles. We plan to utilize Caitlin’s knowledge on the field in all facets of our game. Looking forward to her getting to work with our talented student-athletes over the coming months.”
Fitzpatrick had a stellar career for the Panthers from 2007 to 2010.
A two-time C. Markland Kelly Award winner, given to the top college women’s lacrosse goaltender in NCAA Division I, II, & III, Fitzpatrick helped the Panthers to repeat National Championships (2009 and 2010) and was the only player to repeat as an Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) First Team All-American in Division II in 2009 and 2010. The Northeast-10 Conference Goalkeeper of the Year finished her career with a 54-2 record and 487 saves at Adelphi.
In addition to her All-America honor in 2010, Fitzpatrick was named the IWLCA Division II Goalkeeper of the Year, and was chosen to play in the North-South Senior All-Star Game. She was also a two-time NCAA Division II All-Tournament selection (2009, 2010).
Fitzpatrick, who hails from Port Washington, New York, is a 2010 graduate of Adelphi with a Bachelors of Science degree in Physical Education.
