(Madison County, NY – March 2014) On March 1 Madison County held its county Public Presentations and Horse Communications contest at the Cornell Cooperative Extension Office of Madison County. There were more than 30 participants in attendance.
Public Presentations and Horse Communications give youth the opportunity to prepare a presentation and test their public speaking skills. It also allows youth the chance to overcome their public speaking fears.
Participants are judged on how they present themselves, voice control, ability to explain the topic, how accurate their information is, and how they are able to affect the audience.
In the Junior Public Presentation division Jake Tobin received a blue gold with the top score of 95 percent, Patrick Awald placed with a blue gold at 94 percent, Tatiana Nowakowski placed with a blue gold at 92 percent, Elizabeth Zachow and Isabel Hilliker presented together and received a blue at 87 percent, Ethan Baker placed with a red at 84 percent, Sean Smithers placed with a red at 80 percent, Caitlyn Smithers placed with a red at 79 percent and William Groetz placed with a white at 72 percent.
In the Senior Public Presentation division, Tyler Curtis received a blue gold with the high score of 99 percent, Lara Bruno placed with a blue gold at 86.3, Shelby Curtis also received a blue gold at 86.3 percent, Ashley Kent placed with a blue at 86 percent, Mya Walters placed with a blue at 85 percent, Annika Bruno placed with a red at 83percent, Emerson Brothers placed with a red at 78 percent and Gabriella Nowakowski placed with a white at 69 percent.
Depending on a youth’s score, those who received a blue gold, have the opportunity to compete at the District Level for Public Presentations.
Separate from Public Presentations is Horse Communications. With Horse Communications, participants are judged in the same way; however, all participants are presenting horse related topics.
Within Horse Communications, Anna Ross received a red with the high score of an 82 percent, Kav Young placed with a white at 73.5 percent, Juliana Rudd placed with a white at 72 percent, Madison Brown placed with a white at 65 percent, Harlee Goodwin placed with a white at 61.5 percent, Hanna Keppler placed with a white at 58.5 percent, Hannah Neish placed with a white at 57 percent, Hayley Patane placed with a white at 50.5 percent, and Alyziah Torres placed with a white at 49 percent.
