(Canastota, NY – March 2014) Kathy Pettet of Rising Sun Reiki & Holistic Counseling in Cazenovia visited Wanderers’ Rest Feb. 18 to do some energy work with some of the adoptable animals.

“Reiki engages in a life force energetic rapport with any animal who would like to receive this form of healing,” Pettet said.

Shelter animals frequently come in as strays, so the shelter staff members don’t know their background or experiences, but Reiki can help any animal. Reiki aids in balancing the animal’s health and emotions, increases the animal’s ability to deal with stress and heal from trauma and accelerates recovery in sick or injured animals.

Because Reiki is gentle and non-invasive (and can even be done from a distance) even the most frightened and hurt animals accept the treatment.

During Pettet’s visit, she worked with seven animals, including a cat which had been hit and injured by a snowplow, an anxious dog suffering from cage stress and a cat with litter box issues.

There are many more animals at the shelter in need of Kathy’s gentle healing, and everyone is looking forward to her next visit.
