(Cazenovia, NY – March 2014) Calling all kids ages 8-14! Come to the Cazenovia Public Library on Friday, March 21 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm and celebrate the half-day of school with “Art For Kids – The Artist Within.” Join Pat Hill and Jenna Wright for the 5th installment of this successful series while enjoying a tour of the art gallery and a close-up look at five pieces selected from the Library’s extensive art collection.

With the help of a local artist, participants will focus their attention on the medium and technique used by the artists to convey their particular vision. With their observations in mind, all will be given the opportunity to demonstrate their own artistic style. To inspire and enhance each creation, paper, watercolor pencils, charcoal, and a variety of supplies will be provided.

In addition, participants will qualify for a chance to win a beautiful art collection, donated to the library by a good friend who wants children to unleash the artist within. This art collection consists of 178 pieces and includes just about everything an artist would need—color markers, crayons, color pencils, watercolor cakes, oil pastels, acrylic paint tubes, and much more—all arranged in a beautiful wooden case with adjustable trays.

Don’t miss the chance to join the fun at the Cazenovia Public Library on March 21. Pre-registration is not required for this program.

Open Afternoon Book Club meets March 19

The “Open Afternoon Book Club” for adults continues in the Cazenovia Public Library Story Garden on Wednesday, March 19 at 1:00 pm. All are welcome.

This month the group is reading Defending Jacob by William Landay.

A fast, compelling, and compulsively readable courtroom drama, Defending Jacob tells the story of a district attorney’s son who is accused of killing a classmate. As the father attempts to prove his son’s innocence, Landay explores uncomfortable territory: can a tendency toward violence be inherited? Is the capacity for murder a genetic disposition? The “Open Afternoon Book Club” is free and open to the public. Books are available at the circulation desk and all are welcome.
