zeller(Syracuse, NY – March 2014) New York Army National Guard Sgt. Major Jason Zeller, a Syracuse resident, has successfully completed the Army’s Sergeants Major Academy at Fort Bliss, Texas.

Non-commissioned officers who are promoted to the rank of Sergeant Major, the highest enlisted rank in the Army, must graduate from the course.

Zimmer, a full-time member of the Army National Guard, who serves as the Operations Sergeant Major for the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, is a 21-year veteran of the military.

Prior to joining the Army National Guard he served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Before moving to his current position, Zeller served on the New York Army National Guard’s 2nd and 24th Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support Teams as 1st Sgt. These teams are specially trained to identify the presence of chemical, biological or radiological weapons and provide that information to civilian authorities. CST members are on call to response to incidents in New York and across the region.

Zeller is also a graduate of a number of military and civilian schools to include the Army’s Advanced Non-Commissioned Officers Course, the Army’s Combat Life Saver Course, the Air Force Emergency Medical Technician Base Course, the Marine Jungle Warfare Course and the Marine Scout Swimmer Course and the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center Commercial Vessel Boarding Course.

His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal , Army Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, the United States Coast Guard Special Operations Ribbon and the

New York State Defense of Liberty Medal for responding to the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center.
