Relay for Life News
(Madison County, NY – May 2014) Department of Social Services employees have once again come together to form team “Mad Against Cancer” for the 2014 Madison County Relay for Life. Held again at Oneida High School, the event will kick off at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 31, and run overnight to Sunday morning at 7 a.m.
Full of music, tributes, games and ceremonies, participants take turns walking the track through the night. Cancer never sleeps, and neither will we as we honor survivors, caregivers and those lost to cancer too soon, all to raise awareness and funds for the American Cancer Society.
We also have many fundraisers planned for this RFL season. Coming up are the following:
MAD Against Cancer Partners with Five Below
From April 28 through May 4, the Five Below retail store located in New Hartford will donate 10 percent of every purchase to the Madison County Relay for Life team “MAD Against Cancer.”
The store carries school supplies, software, books, electronics, sporting goods, games, t-shirts, jewelry, bath and body items, candy, snacks, beverages, room décor, storage and more. Everything is priced at $5 or less. Pancake Breakfast
On May 4, there will be a pancake breakfast at New Hartford ’99’ from 8 to 11 a.m. $7.50 includes pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee.
May 24 Deadline to Purchase Butterfly
May 31, there will be a butterfly release to be held at Relay. We are offering people the chance to purchase butterflies for themselves or loved ones in their honor or memory. Butterflies are one for $10, two for $18 or three for $25. All butterflies will be released as a touching tribute at 4 p.m. Unique and breathtaking, this will be a one-of-a-kind ceremony. Must be purchased and paid for by May 24.
Can and Bottle Drive Ongoing
Until mid-May, we are conducting a can and bottle drive. Call to arrange pickup of refundable cans and bottles.
