Registration opens for July 12 fundraising event
(Oneida, NY – May 2014) The YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley announces its 1st annual Frank J. DiChristina Memorial Walk scheduled for Saturday July 12 at the Oneida Family Y.
This non-competitive 5K walk is designed to honor the memory of Coach “D”, raise awareness for the Y’s mission, programs and services and raise money for the Y’s Annual Heroes Campaign, which supports scholarships for children and families who are unable to afford Y services.
Prior to his passing in 2013, Frank was a long time employee, friend and mentor of the Oneida Family Y as well as a legendary figure in the Central New York community. Frank was admired for his ability to connect with people of all kinds, especially seniors and those with physical or mental challenges.
In September 2013, the Y honored Frank by naming the Wellness Center after him. During the ceremony honoring Frank, Hank Leo, the Oneida YMCA Executive Director said, “The joy Frank DiChristina brought to the Y will be missed.”
The non competitive 5K walk will begin and end at the Oneida Family Y located at 701 Seneca St. A one-mile loop will serve as an alternative for those who are interested in a shorter option. The registration fee for adults is $20, while children 12 and under are free.
To register or for more information regarding the event, visit the Oneida or Rome locations, the “Special Events” section of the Y’s website at ymcatrivalley.org or call the Oneida Family Y at (315) 363-7788.
