(Oneida, Canastota, NY – June 2014) Oneida Area Chapter #3328 of AARP, Inc. presented their Annual Outstanding Senior Citizen Award on Wednesday, June 11 at the Rusty Rail Banquet Facility.

Each year, at the Installation of Officers Luncheon, this award is presented to a member who has performed many years of Community Service.

This year the award was presented by Outgoing President, Michael (David) Hartwell, to long time member Marge Palmer from Canastota.

Marge has been very active with AARP, serving on various committees and has held several offices, including being president for six years and a board member for many years.

According to her family, Marge has been very active throughout the entire community as well, holding various positions in other organizations, including the Canal Museum and her church.

Marge retired from Madison County and has two sons, one daughter, six grandchildren and several great grandchildren, some who came to observe the award.

Hartwell said it gave him great pleasure to present this award to Palmer, who still never says no when asked to fill in for an officer of committee person when needed, and never, never complains.

Marge is a great example of the AARP Motto, “TO SERVE, NOT TO BE SERVED”.
