Tuesday, July 1, 10:30 to 11 a.m., Story Time

Story time for babies, toddlers, and their caregivers is held in the children’s story room, and led by library director, Hilary Virgil. At the same time, story time for preschoolers is held in the Community Room, and led by one of our special guest storytellers.

Tuesday, July 1, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., Art Exhibit Reception

Photography by Susan Beattie will be featured in the gallery space at the library from mid-June through the end of July. On July 1, the Friends of the Library are hosting an art exhibit reception to help celebrate Beattie’s art. We hope you’ll join us at this art reception July 1 to meet Beattie and enjoy her photographs along with the refreshments, courtesy of the Friends of the Library.

Wednesday, July 9, 2 to 4 p.m., Library Poster Photo Shoot; Ages 10-Adult

What do you geek? (What are your hobbies and interests?) Come be part of our Geek the Library campaign and have photographer Susan Beattie take your photo for library posters and promotions. Feel free to bring a prop to help show what you geek. Pose on your own, with a friend or family member. Call or stop by the library in advance to register for this event, and choose your appointment time.

Friday, July 11, 11 a.m. to noon, Lego Fun @ Hamilton Public Library; Ages 3-plus

Feel free to stop by anytime between 2 and 3 p.m. to build something creative by yourself or with a friend. A special display of Lego-themed books will also be available for you to browse and borrow during this informal building time.

Monday, July 14, 4 to 5 p.m., “Lava Lamp” in a Bottle; Ages 10-plus

Bring your own clean and empty, one-liter plastic bottle and come explore the science behind the rising, falling movement of the “lava.” (Lighting elements not included.) Call or stop by the library in advance to register for this event.

Thursday, July 17, 11 a.m. to noon, Parachutes, Paper Airplanes and Hoop Gliders; Ages 5-plus

Join us as we make different types of paper aircraft, and explore the gravity and aerodynamics behind them. Bring your own small object or action figure for your parachute. Call or stop by the library in advance to register for this event.

Monday, July 21, 3 to 4 p.m., Oobleck & Slime; Ages 5-plus

Ooey, gooey, slippery, slimy and lots of fun – join us to make your own oobleck and slime. We’ll explore these two properties and the differences between them. Call or stop by the library in advance to register for this event.

Bring your own clean and empty pizza box and come learn to harness the power of the sun to bake s’mores. Call or stop by the library in advance to register for this event.

Tuesday, July 29, 10:30 a.m., Mother Goose Tea Party

In celebration of our last story time of the summer, toddlers, preschoolers and their caregivers are invited to come enjoy nursery rhymes, special activities, and treats to go with them. Mother Goose herself will be here to share a pot of tea, and each child will leave with his or her own booklet of nursery rhymes.

More fun for the whole family – come celebrate the end of our summer reading program and enjoy the “fun and amazing antics” of Dave and Kyle Fultz’ Gravitational Bull Comedy Juggling Show.

Library Closures: We will be closed Friday, July 4, to observe Independence Day. The library will also be closed every Saturday through Labor Day Weekend.

Summer Reading begins: Stop in and sign up the week of July 7. EXCITING NEWS: IF THE CHILDREN READ 1,000 HOURS COLLECTIVELY through the course of our program, THEY CAN SILLY STRING THE LIBRARY MANAGER at graduation!

Family Movie – the LEGO Movie: Kick off our summer reading program by watching “The LEGO Movie” with us at 2:30 p.m. Monday, July 7. Bring your own drink and we will provide the popcorn. As Newsday says, “It’s the smartest, funniest and most dazzlingly inventive children’s movie to come along in years” so bring the family out for this awesome event.

SRP Mural: Help us create our summer reading mural at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 9. Supplies will be provided; just need all young and old talent to come and create.

Out of the Cage Pet Mobile: Join Jennifer Clark as she brings her traveling exotic petting zoo to the library at 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 11. She will be bringing six different animals to learn about, as well as see and touch.

Book Sale: Join us for our annual book sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 12. Lots of great deals. Get some great reads for the summer ahead. The sale will be held in the library program room.

Clearance Book Sale: Join us for special deals Monday, July 14. If you are a senior citizen stop in from 11 a.m. to noon and everything will be half off. If you are not, join us from noon to 3 p.m., and everything will be half off for you, too. From 3 to 4 p.m., not only will things be half off, but we will be having a bag sale (everything in a bag for a buck.) And lastly, if you are a nonprofit or a teacher, bring your ID and see what’s left from 4 to 6:30 p.m., as it’s all free to you.

Fizz, Boom, Water & Snow: Come join us at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, as we play with water and snow. Snow in the summer? Guess you better come and see what we have planned.

Library Board Meeting: The library board of trustees meets at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 17. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.

Grossology 101: Come be “grossed out with us” at 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 18. We will explore the library and the germs inside it; have some “gross out” contests, eat some “gross” treats and lots more.

Operation Safe Child ID program & McGruff: All parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles or caregivers, get your child’s Operation Safe child ID card with us from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 23. If you have one already but have moved, have a different phone number or your child has grown and needs a new picture, stop in. While you are busy with this, the kids get to hang out with McGruff, the crime dog, and the library manager doing cool things.

Science Lab Fun: Come make mad scientist “lab coats” and then do a bunch of wild and crazy “mad” experiments with us Friday, July 25, at 6:30 p.m. We ask that you bring an over-sized (to you), plain white t-shirt that you can use to make your “lab coat” with. The correct size should come to about your knees or mid-thigh.

Tie Dying: Join us for some tie dying on Wednesday July 30 at 6:30pm. Please bring a 100-percent pre-washed cotton item(s) (i.e.-white handkerchief, t-shirt or other white cotton item.) Please dress to get messy, as well.
