(Cazenovia, NY – July 2014) All are invited to join Matthew Urtz, Madison County Historian, in the Cazenovia Public Library Community Room on Thursday, July 17 at 7 p.m. for a discussion entitled “Madison County Exposed.”
The presentation will focus on crimes, scandals, and events that headlined the local news in Madison County from its roots until now. Featured topics include the first and last hangings in the county, the “Trial of the Century,” the demise of the Loomis Gang, Madison County’s “No-Hitter,” multiple murders, arsons, and much, much more.
Urtz was appointed the Madison County Historian in April, 2010. He serves as well on the Cabinet of Freedom for the National Abolitionist Hall of Fame and Museum and on the Archives Committee for the Central New York Library Resource Council. He is also a Board Member and Regional Coordinator for the Association of Public Historians in New York State.
In October, 2013, Urtz started a project to record the stories of World War II Veterans from Madison County. To date, the stories of seven veterans have been recorded with more to come. The goal is to have the recordings available at local libraries and at the Madison County Historical Society.
His presentation and all other events at the Cazenovia Public Library are free and open to the public.
