(Brookfield, NY – July 2014) When the gates closed July 13, the Madison County Fair surpassed the remarkable milestone of entertaining and educating fairgoers for 175 years. The 175th celebration was a carefully crafted mix of old favorites and new activities that entertained patrons and participants daily.

In honor of this special occasion, a mural was painted on a wall in the Merrill Building depicting a timeline of renowned events and entertainers that have contributed to longevity Fair.

A couple of the old favorites were Buffalo Barfield and Two-by-Two Zoo that entertained fairgoers daily. A new addition was the karaoke contest that attracted a number of talented vocalists and qualified six lucky individuals for chance to win $2,500, along with an audition on “The Voice.”

Cattle, horses, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks and rabbits all came to compete for blue ribbons.

The Madison County Youth Bureau overflowed the events tent Saturday with activities for the youngsters.

The stage showcased live music, the Talent Show and the Miss & Mister Madison County Pageant.

Poems were recited at the poetry reading, and stories were shared at the Brookfield Speedway Reunion.

The grandstand crowds were entertained with trucks and tractors spinning their wheels to compete for trophies, and the demolition derby proved once again to be a “smashing” success, playing to a capacity crowd that sold out before the first engine roared to life.

The directors of the Madison County Fair Board would like to thank all of the volunteers, superintendents, sponsors, exhibitors, vendors and patrons; along with the Madison County Board of Supervisors, Madison County Courier, Madison County Tourism, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Madison County Youth Bureau, Madison County 4-H, Cornell Cooperative Extension and everyone else who contributed to the success of the 175th edition of the Fair.

For those interested in obtaining a memento from this historic event, the Madison County Fair’s 175th logo commemorative postal mark will be available at the U.S. Post Office in Brookfield for 30 days following the Fair.

Also, anyone who missed the demolition derby or any of the power pulling events will get another chance when the Madison County Fairgrounds gears up for Wheel Days Sept. 26 through 28.
