(Cazenovia, NY – Aug. 2014) The Museum at the Cazenovia Public Library is pleased to unveil a new exhibit: Treasures from the Attic. Displayed in the local history area, the exhibit features children’s clothing and toys from the museum attic.
Included are two christening gowns, worn by Elizabeth Ten Eyck Litchfield (1841- 1927) and her son, E. Cleveland Oakley (1864-1866). A beautiful child’s tea set (c.1850), also belonging to Elizabeth Ten Eyck, is displayed below the gowns.
Central to the exhibit is a child’s coat, dress and footwear that were worn by members of the Kiley family. Also showcased is a set of whimsical Alice in Wonderland porcelain figurines donated to the museum by Sarah Auchincloss.
A special thank you is extended to Karen Eldridge of Isabella’s for allowing us to use her steaming equipment to very gently remove decades of wrinkles from clothing.
The museum continues to accept donations relating to Cazenovia history, and plans have been made to display more of these treasured items in the future.
“Treasures from the Attic” was designed by Sharon Cooney, Pat Hill and Julia Smith Shotzberger.
